Big Brother & Pain at the Pump
Hi Everyone :) I hope you're having a stellar weekend! The Big Brother 9 Ebay Frenzy picked up even more in the past 24 hours, with the prop department listing over 100 items from the house - like the chess board, and all the love quotes and tons of other stuff. They will ship these items, unlike the larger furniture pieces...
Ok, this has zero to to with Big Brother, but since we're all feeling the crunch... I filled my gas tank yesterday, and as usual, it made me want to scream... Gas is now OVER $4 in my neighborhood...
Instead of screaming, I tried to think of how I could make it hurt a little less... for me.. and for everyone else...
And I went on a little hunt for online retailers I trust that are offering great deals... like free shipping and big discounts...

This sort of is and sort of is not off topic...
I have been watching Big Brother Australia. It started the same day the BB here ended. I have to say that I LOVE it! BB gives the HM (it's house mates over there...) things to do and even dole out tasks to do for 'punishment' when the HM's don't do what they are supposed to. On Fridays, they have Friday Night Games. They are a different theme each week and hilarious! All in all, there is more to watch since they aren't sitting around with nothing to do 95% of the time. And it's less confrontational. Not to say that there aren't problems here and there... I'm enjoying it MUCH more than our BB. I wish our BB would adopt some of what Australia BB does. It sure would be more fun to watch!

As always, you amaze me with your kindness. God Bless! I live in Houston, and gas is $3.52/gallon. It should be cheaper since the oil drills are only 45 miles from us, but it does seem we are cheaper than other parts of the country. My dad lives near Panama City Beach, he always says Texas has the cheap gas! (By the way, I am a Floridian myself, born in Tampa and attended kindergarten in Miami. Then spent many summers in Gulf Breeze/Pensacola Beach growing up. I MISS FLA! I go every summer to visit my Daddy and plan to move back when I hit retirement.) If you are a mom I wish you Happy Mother's Day!!!

You can check it out at xx2000xx's and Dr Detroit's site at BB couch potatoes. They have daily reports and video. Also, you can go to bigbrother.com.au and check out the official site. It it TONS better than our BB site. It gives frequent updates that are going on in the house and there are videos you can watch. The live feeds are 30.00 for the approximate 100 day show. They aren't as good as ours, though. I find with the time difference, I watch delayed videos and get all I want since there are daily shows, etc. BB is HUGE over there and there are huge audiences for all the shows. I understand that people that last long enough in the house can become stars because they are so popular.
You must check out the Friday night games! The videos are usually up by Saturday afternoon our time. Last Friday night was hilarious!!
4 dollars a gallon is a "pain at the pump"?
Give me a break...I pay 5.32 per gallon up in Canada and the rest of the first world is paying even more than what i am...especially in Europe. You should be thanking your lucky stars in America, but as always, this is a typical response from the average "privileged" American who thinks they do not need to feel even a fraction of the effects that the rest of the world around them does, or the "ignorant" American who doesn't realize he/she still has it better than other nations.
God forbid if Americans were forced to downsize from their gas guzzling Escalades and Ford 1 tons to something more understated.
LoL when gas hit 4.17 for regular unleaded last month, I ditched my car for the San Francisco MUNI. A fast pass is 45.00 a month and considering it was costing me 60.00 bucks a week for gas and 20.00 a day for parking I am saving a ton. It only takes me from the time I walk out of my door till the time I get to work 38 minutes! These gas prices are out of control. I heard more propaganda on CNN yesterday, they ran a story that said service stations were only making a penny per gallon profit, BS if that were true they wouldn't be in business, I know I wouldn't. Keep up the good work Carolyn.
Seffie, I agree the AU version of BB is much better in many ways. I don't like the idea of having to pay for your votes via cellphone but I do like it that all the housemates vote on eviction and the top vote getters are in the hot seats for the viewers to evict. Also that there isn't just two in those hot seats.... also you can vote for who to evict and who to save so that makes the votes even more interesting.
I subscribed for 2 seasons but didn't do it this year because I needed a big break after our winter BB. I like their dormitory style arrangements too. Gotta love cheap thrills as the boys shower. :o I love me some Aussie Bums.
I also like as I have said before, one of my biggest peeves of our version is the familiarity with the crew. AU's Big Brother is strict, and allows no disrespect, the way Big Brother should be. Also like the idea of fines for breaking rules... Can you imagine that in our version? The winner would end up owing money, and that would be hilarious. I could go on and on about the things I like better in the AU BB.
Carolyn, I think your online shopping thing is a great idea. I try to do all my shopping online, but I don't have a car (just borrow one from a good friend, but that means we pay for the gas, so I am affecteed.) I just don't have to deal with the payments and insurance.;)
One of my favorite online shopping places is perfumania.com. BIG discounts and most all of the big name brands.
Places like Target.com do a lot of specials such as free shipping. I love that part.
I think you have a great idea and with our comments we could all share our favorite online places.

My comment is to the person from canada that seems to think americans are more "privileged" than the rest of the world. While we may be more fortunate than some others, we are taxed more than people in Europe and pay far more for any medications etc. than you do. Not sure where all the "anger" towards americans come from but maybe you should see someone about that. It is crazy that we are paying $4 a gallon for gas when just 10 years ago it was only $1. I'm sorry you are paying over $5, but I bet you don't pay an arm an a leg to get medication that keeps you alive from chronic medical problems. Go voice your hate for spoiled americans elsewhere while we continue to be disgusted with the gas prices and the mismanagement of OUR country.
Europeans pay less taxes than Americans??? I don't know what you are talking about. Take a look at the tax brackets and you will see you are way wrong. The reason why Europeans and Canadians get "cheaper" healthcare is simply for the reason that we DO PAY HIGHER RATES OF TAXES than Americans. My taxes go to paying for universal healthcare for all Canadians among other things.
